Holograph notebook containing prose and verse written by W. Middleton between 1799 and 1835. The notebook opens with a partial translation of the opening of Fontenelle's "Dialogues on the Plurality of Worlds," preceded by an elaborate title-page. This translation is followed by over 60 pages of verse apparently composed by Middleton himself. There are occasional pieces, such as "Stanzas on the Threatened Invasion by the French," and "Written for Miss Wilson's Album when her Brother James was drowned in the Tyne, 1828;" appreciations of nature and religious poems; and "Imitations" of odes by Horace and of Milton.
